Samaritans Purse Christmas Boxes

COVID isn’t curtailing collecting the Christmas boxes for 2022, in fact with the spread and the effect of the virus on communities, the boxes will be even more necessary.

I have the boxes available, and would encourage anyone who would like to help some of the children who are not as fortunate as we are, to fill a box. To see the joy on the faces of the children, as they receive the gift of the box, brings such joy to the giver. This gift is probably the first they have ever received.

Samaritans Purse send a video to the distributor – that’s how I can say I have seen the joy.

This year the boxes will be going to Madagascar and Cambodia. Boxes will be collected from Merriwa by mid November.

If anyone would like to fill a box or two, please contact me on 0428485131 or 65485131

Merriwa Landcare

GET INVOLVED IN YOUR COMMUNITY NURSERY ON TUESDAY 9 NOVEMBER 2021

If you haven’t already heard, exciting things are happening with Merriwa Landcare’s establishment of a community nursery. Whilst we are still working on setting up at our home location, we have already commenced doing the main work of growing native plants for distribution into our local community.

Seeds have been germinated and we are having a community working bee to pot up the seedlings from the germination trays into individual tubes (allowing the baby plants to get growing). So, if you can give an hour or two of time, come along to our ‘potting up sessions’

DATE: Tuesday 9 November 2021
TIMES: Session 1 – 9:30am to 11:30am OR Session 2 – 1:30 to 3:30pm
LOCATION: Merriwa School of Arts, Bow Street, Merriwa

(Morning and afternoon tea will be provided)

(COVID requirements will be met including the 4 square metre spacing rule and double vaccinated volunteers only. All necessary equipment will be provided). Please wear suitable clothing and closed in shoes.

This is an ideal way to get back out in the community after the COVID lockdown, now is your chance to become involved in this exciting grassroots project. Native plant production is labour intensive so many hands make light work.

For more information contact:  Paul Melehan Mob: 0408 499 838 Email:upperhunterlandcare@gmail.com

This project is supported by The Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife and is part of the Merriwa Landcare ‘Greenthumbs’ project.

Merriwa Tourist Welcoming Centre

END OF LOCKDOWN CELEBRATION
SATURDAY 6 NOVEMBER 2021
5.00PM TOURIST WELCOMING CENTRE CAR PARK

Merriwa Tourist Welcoming Centre and Men’s Shed together with Rotary Club of Merriwa are hosting an informal get together – there are many new comers in town and we felt that it would be a great opportunity for us all to get to know each other before the Christmas rush.

If you are new in town. a longtime resident or anything in between do pop in and join us for a pleasant afternoon, there will be a free sausage
sizzle and plenty of space and fresh air so covid restrictions will be complied with.

There will be chairs provided but if you want to bring your own please do so also BYOG and don’t forget the kids!

Additionally a number of our newcomers are keen to get involved in our community but do not know what is available, so we are trying to compile a list of all community activities, be it sport, craft, social or whatever – not everyone gets the Ringer and not everyone is on Facebook, so if you would like your particular organization/group included in our list please send me an email: brigadoon07@bigpond.com.

WE JUST NEED

NAME OF ORGANIZATION/SPORTING GROUP/COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

CONTACT PERSON AND CONTACT NUMBER/ EMAIL

WHAT THE ORGANIZATION IS: E.G. CRAFT, ROTARY, TENNIS..

DAYS OF OPERATION (IF APPLICABLE)

Pretty much all of us rely on volunteers and these are becoming scarcer with the passage of years, so if we can promote ourselves we might be fortunate and have our newcomers find a project they would like to be involved in.

Congratulations Lachlan

On behalf of all the family I would like to congratulate our son Lochie Walmsley on a fabulous year of rugby league. Loch took the opportunity offered to him by Whitehaven RL and headed over to the UK to further his rugby league career and to chase a dream of playing for Scotland.

He has had a great season for Whitehaven helping them make it to a finals spot, was named Betfred Championship Entertainer of the Year and made his Test debut for Scotland where he converted 5 from 5 goals to help Scotland to a 30 all draw with Jamaica.

We are all immensely proud of Loch and look forward to watching him continue in his quest to further his career, 2022 will see Loch make the move south to play for Halifax RL and hopefully once again play for Scotland in the World Cup at the end of the year.

Thank you to everyone who has followed his journey with keen interest and for the many messages of congratulations and well wishes, he has been overwhelmed and humbled by the attention.

Simon & Jane Walmsley

Merriwa Rotary

THE FIRST MONDAY IN NOVEMBER.

Australia’s (and the World’s) richest turf race, the Everest, is over….. With due respect, I can take a guess that not many of us can name the winner.

THE RACE THAT STOPS THE NATION will be with us on November 2.

IT WILL BE THE RACE THAT STOPS MERRIWA, on Monday, Cup Eve when Rotary Merriwa will be holding our club’s traditional MELBOURNE CUP CALCUTTA evening at the Sports Club. It is always an entertaining evening delivered by a spontaneously witty compère

Tickets for the CALCUTTA and SWEEP will be on sale at various locations in Bettington Street, every day until the end of this week, as well as on Cup Eve Monday morning in the street and right up to the start at the Sports Club that night.

As in past years, an excellent meal , provided by Kylie, will be available. Bookings for a meal should be made with Rotarians in advance, as our numbers will be limited by Covid-19 requirements. Anyone wishing to book meals for the evening should contact Rob Goodear or Will Mulligan.

BE IN IT, so you can (hopefully) WIN IT !

Mark Smith
