TWILIGHT CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL

AN ICE RINK IN MERRIWA THIS CHRISTMAS?

Yes, as part of this year’s Twilight Christmas Carnival, the Upper Hunter Shire Council is bringing this unique opportunity to our doorstep, and the Merriwa District Progress Association is pleased to support the initiative.

The ICE SKATING RINK will be set up at the old netball courts at the Merriwa sportsground. It will be free to enter and will be open from Thursday 21 December (afternoon and evening) to Friday 22 December (morning to afternoon).

In the sportsground precinct there will be Christmas themed activities, music and a special visit from Santa. This centre of Christmas cheer will replace the previous town Christmas party events held in Bettington Street.

Moving the Christmas carnival to the sportsground allows the ice skating rink to remain open for two days and eliminates the high cost of closing the Golden Highway for the town Christmas party.

Council is inviting local committees, groups, and individuals to support or curate and showcase their own activities, host a barbeque as a fundraiser or share their ideas to get involved.

Council is also extending an open invitation to local businesses, offering them the opportunity to actively participate or simply relish in this joyous atmosphere. Council is dedicated to delivering a distinctive Christmas event, fostering collaboration and spreading holiday cheer throughout Merriwa.

Enquiries should be directed to Bek Durietz, Upper Hunter Shire Council’s Events Coordinator on 02 6521 7046 or bdurietz@upperhunter.nsw.gov.au

MR358 UPDATE

Upper Hunter Shire Council is thrilled to announce major progress on the MR358 Merriwa to Willow Tree Road project. With funding secured and the construction contract awarded to Daracon Group, we’re moving forward to improve our regional infrastructure.

👷‍♂️ Mayor Maurice Collison praised our Council staff for their hard work in making this happen. “We’re set to transform this project into a reality,” he said.

🌐 The project, expected to take around 19 months, will enhance connectivity and bring economic benefits to our region.

🤝 Special thanks to our local members, Federal Member for New England, the Hon. Barnaby Joyce MP, and State Member for Upper Hunter, Dave Layzell MP, for their support and advocacy. Thank you also to the Hon. Catherine King MP, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development of Australia, along with the Hon. Jenny Aitchison MP, NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, for their commitment to regional Australia.
